Summer in the Czech Republic comes with one certainty: exceptional artisan ice cream.
We have selected some of the country's finest gelaterias that are well worth the journey—from Prague and Brno to popular holiday destinations across the country. And at the very end, you'll discover a brand-new concept that approaches ice cream from an entirely fresh perspective. Because there is never such a thing as too much great gelato, we are determined to keep expanding this guide as we continue our summer travels across the Czech Republic.
Did we include your favourite? Or is there a hidden gem that our inspectors simply have to visit? Let us know which ice cream shop deserves a place in our Summer Ice Cream Guide.
Crème de la Crème | Prague
For years, Crème de la Crème has ranked among Prague's most sought-after ice cream destinations. Behind the project is Honza Hochsteiger—known to many simply as "Mr Ice Cream"—who honed his craft in Italy before returning home to establish one of the Czech Republic's most successful gelaterias.
Its philosophy is built on premium ingredients, traditional craftsmanship, and recipes that never take shortcuts. Alongside flawlessly executed classics such as Pistachio and Hazelnut, you'll regularly find seasonal and limited-edition flavours that make every return visit worthwhile.

Angelato | Prague
Angelato is a family-run artisan gelateria that has spent years proving that truly great gelato begins with exceptional ingredients. Working closely with local Czech farmers, the team embraces seasonality throughout the year.
Alongside beloved classics, creativity is at the heart of Angelato's identity. Their ever-changing flavour combinations reflect the company's motto: "No Limits." With four locations across Prague, Angelato has firmly established itself as one of the city's ice cream institutions.
Puro Gelato | Prague
Puro Gelato celebrates the Italian gelato tradition through a philosophy of pure, honest flavour. There are no artificial colours or unnecessary additives—just simplicity, outstanding ingredients, and impeccable craftsmanship. The result is one of Prague's most beloved gelatos. If you've never stood in the famous queue at Výtoň, have you really experienced a Prague summer? In addition to its four Prague locations, Puro also operates PURO Gelato Soft on Rašínovo Embankment, where guests can create their own personalised soft-serve creations.
Ještě jednu | Brno
Brno's Ještě jednu has built a devoted following through a refreshingly simple philosophy: fewer flavours, uncompromising freshness. Only a small selection of flavours is produced each day and served using the signature Italian spatula technique. The constantly changing menu gives guests plenty of reasons to keep coming back. One more tip: don't leave without trying their freshly baked waffle cones.

Božský kopeček | Brno
Božský kopeček proves that vegan ice cream is anything but a compromise. The Brno-based gelateria creates exclusively plant-based gelato and produces more than one hundred original flavours throughout the year, ranging from timeless favourites to adventurous combinations featuring herbs, spices, and exotic fruits. Its pastel-coloured gelato vans have become a familiar sight throughout Brno. For the widest selection, head directly to the Gelatovárna, where around thirty flavours are typically available at the same time.
Gelato | Karlovy Vary
Karlovy Vary's first authentic Italian gelateria has become a favourite among both locals and spa visitors. In addition to its permanent shop, the brand operates several elegant gelato carts, including one located directly outside the legendary Grandhotel Pupp. While traditional Italian classics remain at the heart of the menu, creativity also plays an important role. One local favourite is the Becherovka-flavoured gelato—a tribute to Karlovy Vary's world-famous herbal liqueur.

Zmrzlinářství Leda | Liberec
Liberec has its own artisan ice cream destination as well. Zmrzlinářství Leda creates its gelato using original recipes and fresh ingredients, including milk sourced from a nearby local farm. Alongside ice cream, guests can also enjoy homemade waffles. The gelateria has received the Regional Food Award of the Liberec Region for flavours including Salted Caramel and fruit sorbets made from strawberries and blackberries.

Café du Lac | Lipno
Situated on the shores of Lake Lipno, Café du Lac feels more like a French pâtisserie than a traditional Czech ice cream shop. Its artisan gelato is crafted using premium fruit purées, carefully selected nuts, and Madagascan vanilla. Combined with beautiful lake views, every visit captures the atmosphere of a summer holiday in the South of France.
Lenka Peče | Hustopeče
Lenka (na to) Peče has relocated her pastry production from Brno to Hustopeče, where she continues crafting artisan gelato alongside her acclaimed desserts. Inspired by the Italian gelato tradition, her recipes focus on premium ingredients and beautifully clean flavours. If you're travelling through South Moravia, it's worth checking the shop's Instagram profile, where opening hours are updated regularly.
Sugo Gelato Bar | Prague
One of Prague's newest arrivals is Sugo Gelato Bar, created by the teams behind two well-known Karlín restaurants—Sugo Pasta Bar and Enoteca. Artisan soft serve has become an increasingly popular trend around the world, and Sugo is bringing this modern concept to the Czech Republic. Expect honest ingredients, clean flavours, and contemporary gelato presented in a playful new format. Have you already joined the queue?
